Co-Rider Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 27, 2026

In short: Co-Rider has no account, advertising, analytics, backend, or cloud service. Imported GPX files are processed and stored locally on your device. Co-Rider does not send your data to the developer.

Who provides Co-Rider?

Co-Rider is provided by Ralph Dietrich. Privacy questions can be submitted through the Co-Rider legal issue tracker. Please do not include private GPX files or other sensitive information in a public issue.

Data processed by the app

When you choose a GPX file through Android's system file picker, Co-Rider reads the file to display route details and prepare a route for Google Maps. A GPX file may contain geographic coordinates, elevation values, timestamps, and names supplied by you or by the software that created it.

Co-Rider copies imported GPX files to the app's private internal storage. It also stores up to ten recent-route entries, the currently active route, and app settings such as the selected appearance. Older route entries and their internal file copies are removed when the ten-route limit is exceeded.

No developer collection or tracking

Co-Rider does not transmit GPX files or app usage data to the developer. It contains no advertising SDK, analytics SDK, account system, remote database, or developer-operated server. It does not request access to your device's current location.

Opening a route in Google Maps

Co-Rider is not a navigation service. When you explicitly select Open in Google Maps, Co-Rider creates a Google Maps directions link from the route's start, destination, and selected route-shaping coordinates and asks Android to open it in Google Maps or another compatible app. This deliberate action transfers those coordinates to the app or service you choose. Co-Rider does not receive navigation or usage data back.

Once the route is handed over, that third party processes it under its own terms and privacy policy. For Google Maps, see the Google Privacy Policy.

Permissions and file access

GPX files are selected through Android's Storage Access Framework. Co-Rider does not request broad access to all files on your device. Android app backup is disabled for Co-Rider.

Retention and deletion

Local route data remains on your device until it is displaced by the ten-route history limit, you clear Co-Rider's app storage in Android settings, or you uninstall the app. Clearing app storage or uninstalling Co-Rider deletes all data held in its private app storage. Co-Rider has no server-side copy to delete.

Security

Imported files and settings are kept in Android's private app storage. No method of storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but Co-Rider minimizes exposure by keeping route data on the device and not operating a backend.

Children

Co-Rider is intended for licensed road users aged 16 and over and is not directed to children. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children or from any other user.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when Co-Rider's functionality or legal obligations change. The effective date at the top of this page identifies the current version.
